Stomp Procrastination with your stilettos

Yeah I know my title sounds a bit harsh but that little monster is unpredictable and will hold you back if you let it. It’s time to step on that nutcase so you can get down to business. Below are my 8 tips that will pack a good stomp!

  1. Plan: Write down your tasks the night before. Mentally visualize your day as you create those tasks to make sure they are realistic and can be accomplished.  Make your task specific with a measurable outcome.
  2. Commit: Read your tasks for the day first thing in the morning and mentally re-commit to them.
  3. Rank your tasks: All tasks are not created equal so take on your highest value tasks (even if they are not your favorite) and tackle them first.
  4. Focus Your Actions: Take one task and see it through as much as possible. Set aside time to focus your efforts. Don’t worry about what you have to do tomorrow or what you didn’t do yesterday. Today is what’s here now so make it count. Keep in mind that the tasks you put off to tomorrow will only move your desired finish line further out.
  5. Small Actions = Big results: For the task at hand, tackle the most immediate next action. Once that is done then do the next action after that etc. This approach will help you not to feel overwhelmed.
  6. Imperfection is Ok: While I’m sure you hold everything you do to the highest standards, try not to let that get in the way. If you were planning to send out two sales letter inquiries today, instead of spending hours trying to come up with the perfect letter, just give yourself a time box to come up with an ok letter and send it out. There is room to improve next time around but perfection is often elusive and a big enabler to procrastination.
  7. Be consistent: Make a routine out of this. Allow yourself room to get it wrong but work continuously to improve each time.
  8. Reward yourself: A reward for your successes can serve as an incentive to keep you committed.

Never put off for tomorrow, what you can do today.
